Flevoland is the youngest province of the Netherlands and has a completely unique history. Where there used to be only water, we can now live, work and especially enjoy. Surrounded by dikes and 5 meters below sea level, a province has been formed where there is still room for new ideas and you see that everywhere. From impressive history, with traditional Dutch regional products, innovative companies to new nature reserves, beautiful architecture and cozy hotspots. And last but not least, Flevoland is characterized by the great sports and recreational possibilities. The marsh harrier is the symbol of Flevoland and you will therefore also find it in the logo of the province.
The Noordoostpolder is the oldest part of the province of Flevoland and has been dry for over 80 years. Time has not stood still here, on the bottom of the former Zuiderzee, in all those years. Islanders on Urk suddenly became mainlanders. The former island of Schokland, with its rich history, acquired the status of UNESCO World Heritage. And the new land was further cultivated and increasingly populated, even during the Second World War. A strict selection procedure was in place for years, because you did not simply become a resident of the Noordoostpolder. The history of the Noordoostpolder, however young, tells you a beautiful story about struggle and perseverance, but above all about pioneering in the new land. Visit Flevoland and be surprised!
