Flevoland

Flevoland is the youngest province in the Netherlands and has a completely unique history. Where once there was only water, we are now allowed to live, work and, above all, enjoy. Surrounded by dikes and 5 meters below sea level, a province has been formed, where there is still real space for new ideas and that can be seen everywhere. From impressive history, with typical Dutch regional products and innovative companies to new nature reserves, beautiful architecture and cozy hotspots. And last but not least, Flevoland is characterized by its great sporting and recreational opportunities.

The Northeast Polder is the oldest piece of the province of Flevoland and has now been dry for over 80 years. Time has not stood still in all these years here, at the bottom of the former Zuiderzee. Islanders on Urk suddenly became mainlanders. The former island of Schokland, with its rich history, acquired UNESCO World Heritage status. And the new land, even during World War II, was further cultivated and increasingly populated. This was subject to a strict selection procedure for many years, because it was not easy to become a resident of the Northeast Polder. The history of the Northeast Polder, however young, tells a beautiful story of struggle and perseverance, but especially of pioneering in the new land. Visit Flevoland and be surprised!
