The Kuinderbos

The Kuinderbos, polder nature on the former Zuiderzee soil

For Eventing Flevoland we are guests in the Kuinderbos, a unique piece of Flevoland nature at the bottom of the former Zuiderzee. Traces of this can still be found everywhere in the forest. For example, there are still many shell remains.

The Kuinderbos therefore has a special genesis. The Northeast Polder was drained in the 1940s to meet the growing need for good agricultural land. Because not all the land was suitable for agriculture, it was decided to plant forests here. At that time, polder pioneers manually dug as many as 150 kilometers of ditches to dewater the land and planted hundreds of thousands of saplings. Meanwhile, the Kuinderbos has developed into a surprisingly mature and unique nature reserve, teeming with unusual plants, mushrooms, butterflies, birds of prey and predators such as the pine marten.

Therefore, the Kuinderbos is well worth a visit not only during Eventing Flevoland . Throughout the year there are various activities and excursions for young and old. Or take a nice walk in the vast forest area. Of course, horseback riding is also one of the possibilities. In the Kuinderbos is no less than 35 kilometers of beautiful bridle paths!
